On the morning of Monday, October 26, students in Group A participated in an exchange activity with students from Merced College. After dividing into small groups and preparing questions, they enjoyed conversation in English for 20 minutes each. Through interaction with local students, this became a valuable opportunity to develop practical English skills.
Meanwhile, Group B participated in an English class and studied “Othello,” one of the representative works by playwright William Shakespeare. While reading and interpreting the work, they examined the themes embedded in the story and cultivated the ability to perceive matters from multiple perspectives through literature.
In the afternoon, both groups participated in ESL (English Language Learning) classes. They analyzed Steve Jobs’ famous speech, summarized its key points, and gave presentations. They also worked on presentations explaining in English the reasons for photographs they had selected.

On the morning of Tuesday, October 27, Group A participated in a sociology class and learned about roles in society—both those assigned at birth and those obtained through personal effort and achievement. This became an opportunity to deepen their understanding of social structures and the roles people play.
Group B participated in an exchange activity with Merced College students, continuing from the previous day. After preparing questions in advance, they divided into small groups and enjoyed conversation in English. Through dialogue with local students, they practically honed their ability to communicate their thoughts in English.
In the afternoon, Group A participated in a Critical Thinking class. Using historical political posters as material, students in small groups analyzed the target audience and the messages conveyed by the posters. They developed the ability to interpret documents and consider the background and intent behind information. During this time, some students in Group B attended a water polo match and had the opportunity to experience American university sports.
As a conclusion to the two days, all students participated in an ESL class painting birdhouses. Each student put thought into their design, and presented their completed works, explaining the feelings and reasons behind their design choices.

Beyond classroom learning, these two days offered a wealth of experiences including exchange with local students and creative activities. The students are cultivating not only the ability to communicate in English, but also the capacity to think and express themselves while encountering different cultures and ways of thinking.
