On Wednesday, September 16th, we invited a lecturer from ANA Total Research Institute to conduct a special class in the 2nd year Global Course “International Liberal Arts” lesson.

In the first semester, we held a similar special class for 1st year students; however, this time, tailored to the learning of 2nd year students, we focused on learning how to express “hospitality”—caring for others—through concrete actions and words.

In the class, the lecturer taught us the key points for expressing hospitality in “tangible form,” beginning with posture and bearing, and including how to address others in ways that resonate and announcement methods, all while imagining actual customer service scenarios. In the second half, we conducted a workshop where students took on the role of flight attendants and experienced customer service. Assuming in-flight meal service, students considered how to respond when a customer says “I don’t need a meal,” and practiced actually responding with the lecturer playing the role of the customer.

The lecturer provided various responses according to the students’ actions, and the students responded flexibly while thinking on the spot. Students who were initially nervous gradually showed natural smiles as the exchanges continued, and the classroom became filled with a bright and lively atmosphere.

As the 2nd year progresses into the latter half, more and more students are beginning to think about their future paths. After the class, we saw students actively asking the lecturer questions, deepening their interest in various jobs and ways of working, including the aviation industry.

Through this special class, students learned the importance of translating feelings of caring for others into concrete actions and words, and it served as an opportunity to reflect on their own futures and career paths. We hope that students will apply these lessons to their school life going forward and in making career choices.
