On September 5, the participating students arrived safely in Bhutan. After moving to the capital, Thimphu, and resting at their hotel, they visited Kuensel Phodrang, Memorial Chorten, Tashichho Dzong, and other sites.

From their first day of arrival, the students experienced Bhutan’s unique culture and history, building anticipation for the 13-day study abroad program that was about to begin.

On September 6, they traveled from Thimphu to Dochula Pass (Dochula), where they engaged in cultural experiences while appreciating Bhutan’s magnificent natural scenery. Located at an altitude of approximately 3,100 meters, Dochula Pass is known as a place where the Himalayan mountains can be seen on clear days. In a natural environment vastly different from Japan, this proved to be a valuable opportunity to directly experience Bhutan’s beautiful landscapes and culture.

In the evening, they also visited Changlimithang Stadium to watch a U-20 soccer match. Having experienced the local sports culture and enjoyed the match alongside local people in an atmosphere different from Japan, the students gained further appreciation for their host country.

Starting September 7, the formal school exchange program will begin in earnest.
They will visit Pelkhil School, Bhutan’s partner institution, and after participating in the morning assembly with local students, they are scheduled to also attend regular classes. Additionally, from September 8 to 11, they will participate in the school event “Literary Festival Week.”

Through communication in English, as well as through classes, school life, and cultural exchange, the students will directly experience an education and values system different from Japan’s.

Through the 13-day study abroad program, we hope that the students will learn much from their interactions with Bhutanese culture and people, gain new discoveries and insights, and broaden their international perspectives.
