Over the weekend, we conducted fieldwork to experience Malaysian culture and history.

In the morning, we visited the National Museum and learned about Malaysia’s journey from prehistoric times through the colonial period to the present day. Through the exhibits, we deepened our understanding of the history and culture unique to a multiethnic nation.

In the afternoon, we visited Independence Square and an Islamic mosque, deepening our understanding of Malaysia’s history of independence and religious culture. By actually seeing and experiencing these places firsthand, we gained valuable learning that could not be obtained from textbooks alone.

In the evening, we visited Central Market, where we viewed traditional crafts and enjoyed shopping while becoming familiar with local culture. Although it was a lengthy activity, many students were observed actively speaking to local people in English, making it a valuable opportunity to practice what they have learned so far.

July 26 (Sunday)
On this day, we visited the Petronas Twin Towers, which symbolize Malaysia’s modernization, and the KLCC Park that spreads around it. While sensing the vibrant atmosphere of this world-renowned landmark visited by tourists from around the globe, we strolled through the park and enjoyed the cityscape of Kuala Lumpur.

In the afternoon, at a craft complex facility, we participated in a batik (wax-resist dyeing) design experience, a traditional Malaysian craft. Each student freely developed their own design and created an original work unlike any other in the world.

After completing their work, students were given time to present the characteristics and ideas incorporated into their pieces in English. The students explained their work with smiles and confidence, and as they appreciated each other’s creations while expressing themselves in English, it became a fulfilling day that deepened both their English expression skills and cross-cultural understanding.
