Global Course Manila Language Training ⑤

2026.10.27

On Friday, October 23rd, second-year high school students in the Global Course participating in the Philippines language training program took part in a sports festival held at a local school. It was a valuable day where they experienced a school event different from those in Japan and exchanged with local students and international students from Korea.

In the morning, students studied Filipino history and culture in detail in the classroom, and also learned advanced English usage methods required in academic settings. They also received the results of their first level test, which measured their English proficiency at the start of the training program, providing an opportunity to confirm their growth throughout the subsequent training.

In the afternoon, divided into four groups themed around the world of Harry Potter, the students participated in the sports festival. The students prepared team cheering performances and deepened their teamwork while cooperating with students from Korea and the Philippines.

The sports festival featured unique competitions distinctly Filipino in nature that tested reflexes, speed, and thinking skills. Beyond differences in language and culture, students were seen calling out to and cooperating with their teammates as they tackled the competitions. At the end, various awards were presented, and there was also a delightful moment when a student from our school’s Global Standard Course was selected as MVP (Most Valuable Player).

This sports festival was not only an opportunity to deepen understanding of Philippine culture but also a valuable chance to experience a school event different from Japan and build connections with new friends. It was a day where students realized the importance of actively communicating in English and cooperating with one another.

After finishing a fulfilling week at school, students are looking forward to sightseeing in Manila planned for the weekend. In addition to classes and exchanges with local students, direct contact with Philippine cityscapes and culture will further deepen their learning.
