Grade 10 Global Course: Special Class on International Literacy by ANA Research Institute

2026.06.05

On Wednesday, May 27, we held a special class in the Grade 10 Global Course subject “International Liberal Arts,” inviting a former cabin attendant from the ANA Strategic Research Institute to serve as our instructor.

In this class, students learned about the spirit of “hospitality” that airport staff and cabin attendants hold dear. Imagining actual on-the-job situations, they practised in-flight announcements in both Japanese and English, and deepened their understanding of ways of speaking and expressions that convey information clearly to the listener.

In the second half, students took part in group work on the theme “What words would you use when a passenger asks you for a sweet?” They exchanged ideas while considering what the passenger truly wants and what kind of wording leads to a sense of reassurance and satisfaction, and each group then gave a presentation.

Although some students looked nervous during the class, they were keenly interested in this valuable chance to learn directly from a former ANA cabin attendant, and took part in the activities with enthusiasm. Next week, the instructor is scheduled to deliver a class with even more advanced content for the Grade 11 Global Course.

In our school’s “International Liberal Arts” programme, we provide opportunities to learn about international understanding and diverse values not only through classes taught by our own teachers, but also by inviting outside instructors active in a wide range of fields. We will continue to enrich learning that broadens the horizons of every single student.
