Grade 2 Media Art Course UK School Trip ④

2026.11.06

On November 4th (Wednesday), the 2nd-year students in the Media Art Course Class 6, who were on the 4th day of their school trip, and Class 7, who were on the 3rd day, conducted training at Royal Holloway University in the morning, and took a walking tour around London in the afternoon.

During the training, students learned about the university’s history, fields of strength, and the steps to admission. They also heard about the historical differences between Japanese and British universities, as well as student life on campus, deepening their understanding of overseas universities.
Additionally, there was a valuable opportunity to hear from Japanese alumni about the fields they studied, their majors, activities and Club Activities during their student years. Through the words of those who had actually experienced studying abroad, students were able to feel the experience of learning overseas more personally and tangibly.

On the campus tour, students visited the dormitories, restaurants, and chapels. While experiencing the spaces where students live, they were able to feel the atmosphere of the university.

In the workshop, students received instruction on acoustics from Professor Davis. Using scenes such as walking on the moon and space sounds featured in “Star Wars” as subject matter, students experienced a practical lesson combining imagined sounds and visuals.
Depending on what sounds are paired with the video, the impression received from a work changes significantly. For the students, this was an opportunity to consider the expressive power of sound and the relationship between video and audio.

In the afternoon, students visited the National Gallery, the British Museum, and the area around Piccadilly Circus for free exploration. At the museums and galleries, while experiencing the history and culture of various countries around the world, students viewed precious artworks and historical materials. Particularly impressive was seeing students intently viewing ancient artifacts and historical exhibits with keen interest.

Also, around Piccadilly Circus, students stopped by souvenir shops and enjoyed the unique atmosphere and scenery of London. Each student experienced local culture and ways of life, broadened their horizons, and spent memorable moments in London.

Through learning at an overseas university and exploring the city, it was a day filled with many stimulating experiences. We hope that students will apply this experience to their future learning and artwork creation.
