From the classroom to the wider world — students taking flight

Our students take what they learn in class and expand their reach beyond the school. For example, through a class engaging with English-language books, one student took on the Oxford Big Read Contest hosted by Oxford University Press — a competition in which participants design a poster combining an English-language synopsis and original artwork inspired by a literary work — and received the highest award. Through activities related to the SDGs, our school was selected last year as a representative participant in the “Sustainable Brands Conference 2020,” which brought together many companies and university students. Taking up the theme of “religion-related issues,” students created a halal restaurant map and gave a presentation requesting business cooperation from a travel agency. Our students’ activities are no longer confined to the school — they are reaching ever further beyond it.

A course for students who aspire to master English as a tool and become individuals who can thrive anywhere in the world. In addition to acquiring the four English skills, students cultivate a global perspective, communication skills, problem-solving ability, and the ability to express themselves.

This course refines communication, research, and presentation skills using English as a tool, and cultivates the resilience to identify and communicate solutions to problems from a global perspective. Native teachers and Japanese teachers together strengthen the four English skills (reading, writing, speaking, listening), and with the option of humanities or science tracks, students can learn in a way that aligns more closely with their desired career path. After graduation, students aim for overseas universities or top-tier domestic universities (in fields they wish to research more deeply).

This course cultivates the qualities, the confident English ability, and the communication skills for mutual understanding that students will need to navigate an international society. In both the Global Advanced Course and the Global Standard Course, every student takes part in English Camp in their first year and a homestay-based language training trip to the United States in their second year. Through short-, mid-, and long-term overseas study abroad programs, exchange-student dispatches to our sister schools, internship programs at international schools within Japan, and the International Literacy program, students deepen their English communication skills. With many international students and students of foreign nationality among us, the atmosphere is one of mutual understanding and warmth.
